Welcome

Welcome to the Elementary Library! We are off to a wonderful start to the 2008-2009 school year in the library. The library is a busy place! The purpose of this blog is to share library resources, student work, program goals and news with you, our community. Your feedback is welcome and encouraged!

Elementary Library Program

The library is an important center for student learning at ASD. Our goal in the library is to encourage students to develop a love of reading and to build the information seeking skills necessary for both academic and personal needs. Students in K1 to Grade Five are engaged in activities that support curriculum in the areas of literature appreciate and information literacy including accessing, evaluating, and using information. All students visit the library once every six days for a regularly scheduled lesson. In addition, classes frequently come to the library with their classroom teachers for integrated learning experiences.

To support student learning, the elementary library has an extensive print collection of books, magazines and reference materials. We also subscribe to many electronic databases. The library catalog and databases can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Please check the links on the right to explore these resources.

Community Timings and Reminders

Remember, we are open from 7:30 am to 4:00pm, Sunday-Thursday. Students are encouraged to visit the library to checkout books, use the computers for research, do homework or read. We are open throughout the school day for students to check-out and return books. Parents are also welcome to come in and check out books with their children. After school, young students should be accompanied by an adult.
